NEW: Phytophthora-Resistant Tomato Varieties

After six years of intensive classical breeding, De Bolster has developed a new generation of tomato varieties with strong resistance to Phytophthora infestans. These varieties have been bred for growers who need healthy, productive, and dependable tomato crops – particularly in outdoor production and unheated greenhouse systems.

Phytophthora, also known as late blight, remains one of the most serious threats in tomato production. In wet seasons, the disease can cause severe crop losses, especially in crops grown outdoors or under low-input protected conditions. For organic growers, where preventive crop health and strong genetics are essential, resistant varieties can make a significant difference.

De Bolster’s new Phytophthora-resistant tomato varieties have been extensively tested in trial fields and unheated greenhouses over several seasons. While traditional varieties were severely affected by disease pressure, the new varieties remained healthy and continued producing high-quality fruits until late in the season. The results were particularly strong during the very wet summers of 2023 and 2024.

The range includes several fruit types, offering growers, plant raisers, and seed retailers flexibility within their assortment:
