Climbing Flat Bean 'Helda'

Climbing bean flat-podded Helda is by far the most cultivated race for open ground. The legumes are long, quite broad and flattened. Flat-podded bean varieties are very productive. Picking regularly (twice a week) and removing beans that are too thick maintains plant vigor. Sow twice if you want to increase the harvesting period. Cultivation should take place on a sheltered location and make a stable construction on which the plants can climb.

An important advantage of climbing beans is that there are no problems with mould, because the crop is able to dry well. Other advantages are the long picking periods and high yields. Never sow beans with cold or wet weather. It is also important to sow sufficiently deep (3-4 cm) in order to prevent mice and birds from eating the seeds.
